Who keeps the paper
Uploading a paper should not change who it belongs to.
Ownership of an uploaded paper stays with the person who wrote it. Tolayda holds the paper so it can be translated, read beside the original, and kept until the author deletes it or the institution asks for deletion.
Most papers arrive through a university. Seats are issued from a university Microsoft account on a licensed domain. For work submitted on a university account, the institution is typically the data controller. LaunchPad Labs, which operates Tolayda, processes that work under the institution's instructions. The university's records stay with the university.
Personal data is used for three things: to sign a person in, to confirm the licence, and to operate that workspace. Reading preferences, such as larger text or a dyslexia-friendly font, stay on the device.
Deleting an account removes that person's papers, translations, files, and account. The deletion is permanent. We say so plainly because it is a decision the author should make knowing what it does.
The privacy policy and the terms of service are the full account: what is stored, who it is shared with in order to run the service, how long it is kept, and how to ask for access or deletion. A person may also complain to the ICO.
The short version is on the about page. Questions go to hello@launchpadlabs.uk.
